Installing a mini projector at home involves three main steps: position it, connect it and adjust it. A few checks help prevent blurred, distorted or washed-out images.
2. Measure the projection distance
Temporarily place the projector facing the wall and move it until you obtain the desired size. Bigger is not always better: the picture can appear dimmer and less sharp. Keep the unit stable and well away from furniture edges.
3. Let the unit breathe
Do not block ventilation grilles or enclose the projector in a closed cabinet. Avoid soft surfaces such as a bed or sofa. Regularly clean the surrounding area to limit dust build-up.
4. Connect your source
Depending on the model, you can use compatible apps, an HDMI input, a USB drive or casting from a compatible device. Check each service's requirements. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and other subscriptions are not included with the projector.
5. Adjust the picture
Start by positioning the unit correctly. Then adjust focus, followed by keystone or four-point correction if available. To preserve picture quality, position the projector as squarely as possible towards the centre of the surface.
6. Adjust the sound
The built-in speaker is sufficient to get started. For fuller sound, use an audio output or compatible Bluetooth speaker if your model supports it. Set the volume before viewing.
7. Make the setup safe
Keep cables tidy to prevent trips and use a support rated for the projector's weight. For a fixed setup, explore our projector accessories. To choose a projector, see the MOODPROJECT range.
The final check
Test a dark scene, a bright scene and subtitles. If the picture looks suitable in all three situations, the setup is ready for films, series or games.
Diagnose common problems
- The whole image is blurred: refocus, then check distance and the outside of the lens following the manual's cleaning instructions.
- One side is less sharp: position the projector more squarely towards the surface before increasing digital correction.
- The picture looks washed out: reduce light on the projection area and try a smaller image.
- The HDMI source does not appear: select the correct input and check source power, cable and output signal.
- An app will not play a film: check the service, subscription, updates and compatibility; try a compatible HDMI player if necessary.
Prepare an HDMI cable or speaker
Choose cable length for the actual route, leaving some slack to avoid pulling on ports. Cable capabilities must suit the devices, but a 4K or 8K cable does not change the projector's native resolution. For Bluetooth audio, test dialogue: viewing comfort also depends on synchronisation between picture and sound.
Wall or screen: start with a trial
Test the projector on a light-coloured, matt surface before mounting a screen. Then check the screen dimensions, installation and recommended orientation. Screen size alone does not determine projection distance: this depends on the projector and its throw characteristics.
Checklist before your first viewing
- Stable projector, clear air vents and cables outside walkways.
- Correct source selected and connection tested.
- Centred image, focus checked and correction kept limited.
- Volume and any audio delay checked.
- Apps and subscriptions accessible on your setup.
